Is This Form? Or Fashion? Or Simply Whatever Works?

Check out this fashion statement! Bill's brother, Doug, helps us each year as we harvest hay from his fields and get it in the barn for the winter. When the sun beats down, there's no stopping the mind of a determined farmer.

We think Doug is accepting orders for these beauties if you want to give him a call! We're sure he'd be happy to sell you a Kubota and, if you ask nicely, he may even throw in an umbrella to close the deal!

You will probably have to take whatever color is in stock, but
they all work just fine and you're sure to get noticed!

Summertime... And The Livin' Is A Lot of Work!!!

With many thanks to a great crew, we were successful getting in all of our first cut of hay, in spite of the rains that just seemed to continue to plague us throughout June and July. Even though hay season brings a lot of work, it is also a time to enjoy the company of family and friends when the work is done. Thanks Abby, Kia, Dan and Stevie. You made our work much more manageable!

Rascal Has A Job!

SmithFields Irish Pride (aka Rascal) now has a real job! He has begun his training with Dottie Brittingham of Independence Stables. We're looking forward to seeing his progress and can't wait to see him doing something besides grazing the fields!

Introducing A New Team For Summer 2006

This year, we're pleased to tell you Jen Lober of Walpole, NH will be introducing Ben's full brother, SmithFields Forevermine, aka "Pistol", to the dressage arena. Jen and Pistol are working well together and we're looking forward to seeing them in the ring this year. We expect Heritage Days in Tunbridge on June 30th to be their first stop.

We're wishing you the best of success Jen. But, more importantly, we're wishing you lots of fun!

Enjoying The Challenge Of Dressage

SmithFields' Forever Yours, aka "Ben", and I have been seen out and about in the dressage ring for a couple of years now. I plan to continue the work and believe Ben is well-suited to dressage.

This year, we attended a spring GMHA show and CT Morgan Show. Future plans include GMHA, Granite State, Heritage Days, Mass Morgan, and possibly Syracuse.

We're having good success and I find this discipline both challenging and rewarding in many ways.

Our Annual Visit From Walpole School

Each year, we welcome a group of students from the Walpole School to visit the farm, ask questions about Morgans and their care, and report back to their fellow students all they have learned. We always have a great time with the children, and this year was no exception. It goes without saying, of course, that the horses love all the attention!

Be sure to look at the Magic Moments section of our website to see another special picture captured during this year's visit.

A Successful Celebrate The Morgan Event

On September 10, 2005, SmithFields Morgans and Homestead Farms in Walpole, NH joined forces to help the public Celebrate the Morgan. Guests enjoyed the hands on opportunity to get to meet Morgan horses, up close and personal. To learn more about our Celebrate the Morgan event, click here.

Anna Lencioni & SmithFields Scotsman...

Anna Lencioni continues her success story with her horse, SmithFields' Scotsman. Anna and "Scotty" have won their share of blues and are now busy showing in their 2006 competition year.

Best wishes for another great year Anna! We're very proud of both of you!

The Ladies Are "Coming Out!"

Colleen Hubbard, proud owner of SmithFields' First Lady, has now made her show ring debut. Lady is sired by Charlestown Scotland and out of Stewart's Kelly. Lady is now being trained and shown by Colleen for western pleasure. We're looking forward to seeing more of you two, Colleen!

July 2006 update! - Colleen and Lady have won their first blue ribbon! And for those of us who were there to witness the moment, there was absolutely no wiping that smile off her face! Congratulations Colleen!

And She Said She'd Never Show!!!

After trying to convince herself, and everyone around her, that she was never going to show, Obe changed her mind and made her show ring debut with Equinox Carillon, aka "Cari". Obe began studying dressage the previous year and has done all the training on her new young mare, Cari. Well, Obe and Cari made their presence known at their first Green Mountain Horse Association's amateur show when "Team Lisai" brought home a couple of blues! This year, Obe and Cari will be working hard on their dressage lessons and we wish them similar success as they climb the levels!

In The Lake?

SmithFields' Intuition, aka "Ethan", was sold last year to Kathi and Pat Gallant of Spencer, MA. Kathi spent many hours and worked patiently with Ethan to train him to trust her as her trail companion. She made wonderful progress and, before we knew it, they were swimming in the local lake!!! We feel fortunate to have made some special new friends, and it is an added bonus and such a pleasure to see horses we have bred and raised bring so much enjoyment to their new owners. Congratulations to Kathi and Pat.

She Said She Wanted A Black Gelding...

We're pleased to welcome another new Morgan owner to SmithFields Morgans. After a great deal of searching, and a loooooooong road trip, Cammie Royce found the horse of her dreams in Two J's Willy's Warlock, aka "Willy." This handsome black stallion melted Cammie's heart the first time she laid eyes on him and Cammie could not wait to get her new boy home. Well, Cammie's dream has now come true. Recently gelded, Willy is receiving great care and devotion as Cammie enjoys getting to know him and working on refining those western pleasure gaits. We couldn't be happier for Cammie.

Smokey Joins The Family!

It was Christmas Eve 2004 when "Smokey" joined the family at SmithFields' Morgans. We knew this sweet face was soon to favor us with a few sleepless nights, but he was house trained in no time.

A few moments of 'bonding,' and Bill and Smokey became 'best buddies.' Good thing Bill held him and played with him a lot those first few weeks, because now at eighteen months old, he weighs 100 pounds and, while way too big to hold, he still wants to climb on your lap!

You Want Me To Go Where???

It took a little coaxing for this Morgan who lives on top of a hill, where waves are completely unknown, to be even remotely tempted to put his toes in those cold ocean waters.

However... trusting his partner... in he went!
